As I mentioned in the studio tour, I did a quick makeover on this generic office wipe board to make it more pretty. The result is pretty great for the minimal effort needed to make the changes.
Here’s what it looked like before the makeover:
Yuck. Earlier I had tried to cover up an odd graphic at the top with a paper banner. But that was like putting a band-aid on a broken bone.
I taped painters tape and paper to the wipe board surface. Then I took it outside and sprayed it with gold spray paint. I learned that spray paint that is from 1995 still works fairly well. In case you were wondering.
The gold made a big impact. It almost looks like a real frame (Erwin actually thought it was an entirely new frame altogether). I then used some new yellow paper from Smock and stamped the days of the week so that the entire graphic header was hidden. The whole project cost $3.95- the price for the paper.
If you have a similar boring but functional office item, try a quick trick like this. I mean, hey, you look at it everyday- why not like what you see?

@ PVE: I hope she does her own little customizing on her wipe board as well.
@ Eva: Hmmm… how about a pencil cup? I like using vintage glasses or cool cups from Anthropologie. Or if you want to do some spray painting… how about a clip board?
