Good morning! Before I reveal what the (almost) finished studio looks like, I’d like to share two projects I completed for the space. The first one I’m sharing today is the over-sized bulletin inspiration board that takes up one whole wall.
To make the inspiration wall, I decided to use cork board contact paper (normally used to line drawers or in my case, medicine cabinets) and foam core boards. The general idea was to make cork boards that I can cover with notes, images, and pretty things as cheaply inexpensively as possible. Here’s what I did:
- First, I purchased three large 30×40″ foam core boards, five rolls of cork board contact paper (found at Target and Home Depot), Command Adhesive strips for mounting on the wall, and about two dozen giant yellow circle stickers for decoration. I believe the total for all of these things was around $60-$70. Which was more than I expected, but definitely cheaper than a traditional extra large cork board.
- Next, I measured out the cork contact paper to match the board and used a razor blade to cut the cork cleanly. Each board used about 1.5 rolls of cork which I pieced together as cleanly as possible. (Neatness is relative for this project considering how large the boards were. There are quite a few errors in mine, but I’ll use “inspirational images” to cover up the mistakes.) This step was repeated on all three boards.
- To finish the boards, I stuck a row of yellow stickers along the bottom to hide some of the flaws and add graphic interest.
- Mounting the boards was easy using the Command stickers (four per board).
PS- Please ignore the fact that I ran out of yellow stickers and need about five more– I’m going to get them this afternoon.
