I read this book a couple of summers ago, and I recall drawing stares as I laughed out loud on the bus. I’m not sure how I feel about the movie…I’m always skeptical when a book I enjoyed thoroughly is being turned into a movie, i.e. will the movie be a disappointment, etc?

I haven’t read it yet, but seeing the movie trailer made me put it on my reading list. I can’t get over how much Meryl Streep sounds and looks like Julia Child! That alone makes me want to see the movie.

Like other commentors have said, the idea of the blog/book is great, but perhaps I’ll wait for your full review of the book to see if I should check it out

I read this book too – also because I wanted to read it before seeing the movie

I have to say I didn’t really like the book. I WANTED to like the book, but I really had to push myself to keep reading it. The only reason I didn’t put it down and call it a loss is because I have such high hopes for the movie and I wanted to get through the book before seeing that.

That being said, I think I have to agree with everyone who commented before me and say that the book is really nothing special, but I still can’t wait to see the movie – which apparently focuses a lot more on Julia Child’s life than the book does! If anyone can make this story more endearing and entertaining, it’s Amy Adams and Meryl Streep.

I can’t say that I liked the book. I was hoping to and the storyline sounded good but I found the author annoying; I think she whined too much. I tried though. And with enough creative liberties I think it could be a good movie! I hope.

I’m with Jill. I read the book about a month ago, and didn’t quite fall in love with it like I thought I would. I think I like the idea of the book more than I liked the book itself. Either way, I’ll be checking out the movie soon. Meryl Streep and Amy Adams? I’m so there!

I really adore that Julia C. and her recipes are incredible. I remember watching her on TV with Jacques and my Mom speaking like her….holding up a chicken….
Such spontaneity and gusto in the kitchen, which I totally admire.

I read it and hear you on the hilarity part 100% – I am a voracious fiction reader, I’ll read pretty much anything. My mom LOVED the book and I kept waiting to “get” it. I didn’t really relate well to Julie (felt like she complained a lot) – but I do LOVE the idea of her project. Sounds so fun and adventurous! Have fun at the movie… I’ll likely see it soon too!
