I can’t believe it’s been one year since I started MakeunderMyLife. Pretty incredible. I started this blog without any expectation, hoping to one day compile the contents into a book. And today, 365 days later, I’m being interviewed by a local television show about the blog and my message(!!).
I’m pinching myself.
To show my thanks for reading the blog and making my life so much more purposeful, I am doing something brand new on MML: I’m doing a Jess LC giveaway. (I know what you’re thinking- Finally!)
And it’s not just any ol’ giveaway. I’m giving away TWO $100 GIFT CERTIFICATES. Yep. That’s how excited I am about this birthday.
How to Win the Gift Certificates
To win a gift certificate, please submit (in a comment on this post) a intentional message that you would like to wear on a piece of jewelry. If you responded to this question on yesterday’s post, you are welcome to submit it again to enter the giveaway on this post as well. My hope is to continue to get new message ideas to vote on later this month. If you’d like to learn more about the new Jess LC collection these intentional messages will be used for, read on.
I’m also excited to announce that the authors of the six messages which become part of the new line will receive their own necklace with their phrase compliments of Jess LC.
And of course, feel free to spread the word about the giveaway and the intentional message contest!
(Giveaway winners will be picked and announced next Tuesday 1/26.)

Hi there! I come by way of Holly’s blog! I think if I could have a special message, gosh..I guess there would be a couple. The first would be “Love me”-simple right? My uncle (who has since passed away) never said “I love you” he’d always say love me, so it’s a family thing now that we all say it. The other is more mommy specific to me-I’ve sang my daughter a song called Lullaby in Blue (by Debbie Reynolds from Bundle of Joy) since she was born. I’d love to have a necklace with “honest to goodness, I do” it’s her favorite part! Happy Birthday!

Well, I posted my suggestion yesterday but I really can’t give up this opportunity, can I?!
My suggestion is: “Persistance”
I’d also like to add “Trust” which I think is an amazing word and concept. In italian it would be “Fiducia”…
January 19th, 2010 at 8:07 am
oh boy, I’m going to have to re-submit mine as well!
“Be the change”
“Fly”
and “Go for it.”
Happy Birthday to MML and a tv interview?!? Awesome!
January 19th, 2010 at 8:16 am
Happy Birthday, Makeunder My Life! And congratulations, Jess! You’ve created such an inspiring and thought-provoking blog that is a joy to read! I always find myself looking forward to your posts!
As I posted yesterday, I love “Say Yes”. I’ve also been thinking about it and I’d love to see “Jump” or “Leap”. Simple but meaningful and effective!
Congrats again!
January 19th, 2010 at 8:18 am
Happy Birthday! I absolutely adore this blog. I would have to say “Fearless”, right now I’m working on not letting my fears make my decisions for me.
I also like “Trust”
Keep up the great work!!!
January 19th, 2010 at 8:30 am
Hi Jess,
Happy Birthday to MML!
I’d have to say “patience” because I think we could all use a little more of that
and “faith” – not in a religious stance, but in believing in ourselves and others.
Congrats!!
Best,
Melissa

My phrase would be “Love Life”. I think it encompasses loving one-self, loving the people around you, and loving the planet you live on, and preserving all that is good and meaningful about Life vs the material things.
Thanks for the opportunity!

I like “Believe” and “Persistence” as I think others have already said. I’m also a fan of “Perception” (how things affect you is directly related to how you look at it/how you perceive it).
Congrats Jess! This is an awesome milestone
January 19th, 2010 at 8:44 am
Hooray for birthdays! I can’t believe MML is only a year old; it feels like I’ve been reading your posts for ages!
I still think I’d love a piece of jewelry that hints toward my goal of a simpler way of life. “Live simple” still gets my vote. I’m loving some of the other ideas I’ve read, though. What a great idea!
January 19th, 2010 at 9:02 am
Hey Jess! Happy Birthday MML
So happy I’ve found your blog. Here are my ideas:
Just Be.
Pause.
Breathe.
really like the live simple idea from annie – maybe simplify or just less would be great intentions.
January 19th, 2010 at 9:11 am
“Love thy self”
“do unto others”
“grace”
Congrats!
Katrina

Congratulations and Happy Birthday MML! What an awesome achievement!
Ok…here are my top 3 mantras!
1. Believe In Yourself
2. Open Your Eyes
3. Never Stop Running
I have these posted everywhere!
Love this contest!
January 19th, 2010 at 9:20 am
happy birthday and great giveaway!!
“ciao”- the italian word for hello (and goodbye). i love the way it looks, sounds, and it reminds me of our recent trip to italy!
I love the “live simple” listed above. so i will add “dream big” to go along with that.
January 19th, 2010 at 9:28 am
I like “Let me count the ways.”
January 19th, 2010 at 9:33 am
I´m relatively new to your blog, and have been slowly reading everything….really inspiring to me (I am in the middle of sort of a crisis, so it is really helping).
My ideas would be:
“joy” and
“compassion”
Love from Argentina,
Laura
January 19th, 2010 at 9:34 am
“third” i would wear that on a piece of jewelry to remind myself of Matthew 22:37-40, god first, others second…me in third place.
I also liked “be present” from yesterday’s suggestions
“simplify” would be another great piece.
THANKS FOR THE GIVEAWAY! Happy blog bday!
January 19th, 2010 at 9:36 am
“Be Brave” or “Forge Your Own Path” or “Hope”
Happy 1st Birthday.
That’s so awesome! Best wishes for many more milestones & success!
January 19th, 2010 at 9:56 am
I read Christine Kane’s blog and she invites readers to choose one word to set their intention for the year. Well, I’m having a hard time narrowing it down to just one word, so I’ve chosen a phrase for 2010: “radiate and shine.” I think I’d love to see radiate on a piece of jewelry, but shine might have more widespread appeal. xoxo.
Happy first blog birthday!
January 19th, 2010 at 10:02 am
I also posted yesterday but this giveaway is too awesome not to post it again, my word of intention is “grace”. Thanks!
January 19th, 2010 at 10:02 am
Happy birthday!
“Sincerity and/or truth”
January 19th, 2010 at 10:10 am
Hi, Jess. This is a wonderful idea, and I look forward to seeing the new line. Some thoughts on phrases that resonate for me:
Be Here Now (on of my favorite statements of Zen philosophy)
Embrace change
Live in gratitude
Say ‘yes’
Dream large
Dream
Embrace the sublime
Create
Follow your Heart
Trust your Heart
Breathe
Live Fearlessly
Live Your Passion
Do it Now
Take a Risk
Let it Go
Be a Light
Enjoy the Journey
Think Big
Never Stop Learning
Simplify
Choose Joy
Laugh Often
Aim High
Live with Purpose
Progress, not Perfection
Courage
Grateful abundance
Balance
Strive for Balance
Eat. Sleep. Read.
Only Connect (this is a bit esoteric, I know, but it’s the theme, and one of my favorite lines from E.M. Forster’s ‘Howard’s End.’ Forster’s message is that interpersonal relationships give meaning to life, and it is that connection between us and others that gives our lives purpose.)
Hope some of these are useful.

Hi Jess,
Reading all these amazing comments got me thinking of a quote by Mark Twain that has been my inspiration for quite a while (especially when I was 19 and working around the world for a cruise line).
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”
I think “Explore”, “Dream” and “Discover” would be three amazing gifts for a young woman in search of her true self.
January 19th, 2010 at 10:14 am
“Visualize”
Congratulations and happy birthday!
January 19th, 2010 at 10:20 am
breathe
January 19th, 2010 at 10:22 am
Congrats, Jess!! Happy Birthday to MML! You’ve created such an awesome & inspirational site. Way to go!
I like, “Just Do It” or “Live Your Dreams”
January 19th, 2010 at 10:32 am
“balance” because sometimes we just need a daily reminder to remember to stay balanced!
thanks!
January 19th, 2010 at 10:36 am
“Be Yourself”
“Relax”
“Listen”
“Trust Yourself”
“Meant to be”
Congrats on 1-year!
January 19th, 2010 at 10:38 am
Happy Birthday!!
Ground and Center
Focus
Simply with Intention
Just Be
I Am
With Gratitude
January 19th, 2010 at 10:38 am
Live fully.
Grow.
Or if you’re into a bit more abstract of an idea, at the end of my yoga sessions we say “Namasté” which more or less means the divine in me recognizes the divine in you.
January 19th, 2010 at 10:44 am
Live in the moment.
That’s what I’m trying to do each and every day this year.
January 19th, 2010 at 10:47 am
I don’t know if someone else suggested this yet, but I’d love to see “Embrace crazy” on a piece of your jewelry! The thing that has keep me going over the last year has been embracing all the craziness in my life, so this would mean a lot to me!
January 19th, 2010 at 10:49 am
Some intentions I live by and would love to see memorialized in a Jess LC piece are
“Live Consciously”
“Step Lightly” or “Tread Lightly”
and “Enjoy The Journey”
: )
January 19th, 2010 at 10:56 am
I think it’d have to be Just Breathe. sometimes we all need a reminder to slow down, take a second for ourselves, and that would be a great reminder for me.
January 19th, 2010 at 11:05 am
I like words in other languages – as do some others that have commented… but a word I keep posted around me is “stop”
fermarsi: Italian
arrêter: French
It reminds me to stop
rushing, being critical, worrying – stop and enjoy the moment.
January 19th, 2010 at 11:09 am
The list of statements is so huge already! I definitely would like a piece of jewelry with just the word “patience” on it. I need more of it!
What an unbelievable giveaway! Happy Bday to MML!
January 19th, 2010 at 11:14 am
Happy Happy Birthday Makeunder Your Life! Can’t wait to be here when even more candles get added to the cake.
I would love to wear something that reminded me to “Follow My Bliss” & “Trust”.
Can’t wait to see this new line!
January 19th, 2010 at 11:18 am
What an amazing giveaway! Happy Birthday!
I think “happy to be me” would be great on a necklace.
January 19th, 2010 at 11:21 am
Happy Birthday! Congrats on all of your success:) I wrote yesterday but of course will enter the contest: life is beautiful
January 19th, 2010 at 11:28 am
Great give away! I think “enjoy the moment” would be great on a piece of jewelry and remind us to take a breather and enjoy the little things in life.
January 19th, 2010 at 11:31 am
Congrats on 1 year and wishing you the best for many more! I find your blog very inspiring and there are a couple of thoughts that come to me about an intentional message:
Laugh (or smile) ever day
Find inspiration
Just Breathe
January 19th, 2010 at 11:42 am
Hey Jess!
i am so delighted to stumble across your blog! i live in the chicago, lakeview area also. congrats on your success and my ideas are….
“fearless”
“hold on to these moments”
Kayla C.
January 19th, 2010 at 12:04 pm
ps. me again. i thought of one more…
“love, love here we are” pablo neruda
not sure you could use it with it being a quote but i love it.
January 19th, 2010 at 12:16 pm
I thought of one more as well…
“Be the Change”
January 19th, 2010 at 12:25 pm
Hi- love your blog! And what a great giveaway! I like:
- “Be Thankful”
- “Live Simply”
- “Breathe”
- “Love One Another”
January 19th, 2010 at 12:40 pm
Be Yourself – Dream – Evolve that is a phrase I used to say all the time … I also like the idea of Be – and then there could be several words for different pieces. Congrats on your success!
January 19th, 2010 at 12:48 pm
My word would be Flourish, i.e, to achieve success; to thrive
January 19th, 2010 at 12:51 pm
“Be Fearless” – this is what I need to keep telling myself, so it would be great to have it on a necklace! I am trying to break out of my comfort zone and leap into new experiences, but fear keeps holding me back.
Happy Birthday to MML and congrats!
January 19th, 2010 at 12:52 pm
Congrats on making one year! I absolutely love the blog and the message behind it.
I really like “Be Strong” or “Strength” because there are always moments in life when we have to remember to stand strong. This year I’ve decided to strengthen my values, body, and soul.
January 19th, 2010 at 12:54 pm
As a new mom I often find myself saying “you’re gonna miss this”. It reminds me to live in the moment (which could also be another saying.) When my baby girl is crying and just wants to be held I always think about how I really will miss the tough baby days when she’s all grown up!
Happy 1 year!
January 19th, 2010 at 1:04 pm
alright, here’s my 3 favorite words and therefore what i’d wear on a necklace:
- hope.
- lovely.
- slainte. (the gaelic word for “health,” and as some people may know, what they say instead of “cheers”)
