firstbirthdaygiveaway

I can’t believe it’s been one year since I started MakeunderMyLife. Pretty incredible. I started this blog without any expectation, hoping to one day compile the contents into a book. And today, 365 days later, I’m being interviewed by a local television show about the blog and my message(!!).

I’m pinching myself.

To show my thanks for reading the blog and making my life so much more purposeful, I am doing something brand new on MML: I’m doing a Jess LC giveaway. (I know what you’re thinking- Finally!)

And it’s not just any ol’ giveaway. I’m giving away TWO $100 GIFT CERTIFICATES. Yep. That’s how excited I am about this birthday.

How to Win the Gift Certificates

To win a gift certificate, please submit (in a comment on this post) a intentional message that you would like to wear on a piece of jewelry. If you responded to this question on yesterday’s post, you are welcome to submit it again to enter the giveaway on this post as well. My hope is to continue to get new message ideas to vote on later this month. If you’d like to learn more about the new Jess LC collection these intentional messages will be used for, read on.

I’m also excited to announce that the authors of the six messages which become part of the new line will receive their own necklace with their phrase compliments of Jess LC. :)

And of course, feel free to spread the word about the giveaway and the intentional message contest!

(Giveaway winners will be picked and announced next Tuesday 1/26.)

    “listen”

    :)

  2. Bonnie Sue Says:

Happy Birthday! All the best for your future!! Your jewelry designs are truly lovely. My suggestion for wearable words is FAITH.

  3. S.E.Minegar Says:

    Happy Birthday!

I have a necklace that says “inspire.” I bought it when I started teaching. It gives me good energy.

Since you are a make-under site, “simplify” might be nice too

  4. Anna Says:

    Happiness is Within

  5. Kelly Says:

Congratulations! My suggestion is “just breathe”…it can get you through so many things.

  6. Mrs. Limestone Says:

By no means my own idea, my favorite line is from my favorite movie. “Love actually is all around”

Another one I like is “mean it”. (As in mean what you do, do what you say) or for the particularily sassy “Clever Forever”

  7. Liz Says:

    “i am here”

    “breathe”

  8. Sue Ader Says:

My suggestion would be “seek happiness”. Who needs anything else?

  9. wdt Says:

Your blog is the first I check everyday…I love it. Thank you and congratulations on a wonderful first year.
My mantra for 2010 is “breathe”. 2010 brought lots of changes and new schedules and added stressors, so I am trying to remember to breathe, come back to my intention for the day and do it gracefully. So that is my submission for a necklace: breathe.

  10. Liz Says:

    “stop – look – listen”

  11. Leana Says:

    happy 1st birthday! “wholehearted”

  12. Jillian Says:

Thank you for your wonderful blog and happy blog birthday. I have found your blog very inspiring.

I second the “less is more” suggestion. Or perhaps something along the lines of your interview title: “design your life.” This phrase speaks volumes to me about living with intention: thinking things through, making choices and decisions that align with your goals.

  13. Alissa Says:

    Progress
    or Transform

Lately I’ve been very focused on evaluating my career, life and attitude and making positive changes to transform myself!

  14. Amy Says:

Jess, I’m so proud of you! You’ve come such a long way in the last year. Happy Birthday to MML! :)

  15. Christina Says:

hi! i would love to enter and i think “just be” or “enjoy” is an intention i would wear to remind myself to relax and love life. stress less!

  16. JennyD Says:

    Determined

  17. Miss E Says:

I would say “Keep Faith” or “Inner Grace” would be ones I would wear. But what about “Simplify”…something that goes along with MML’s mantra?

Happy Birthday to MML! Love reading your blog!

  18. Brigitte Says:

It won’t surprise you that I’m re-reading the 7 habits, and I’ve written down one message from the book so far.

    Love is a verb.

It’s 4 words. Is that ok?

Perhaps due to the book, I’m also thinking, “I choose.” It’s such a powerful statement to me, because it’s an affirmation of your person-hood.

  19. Brigitte Says:

Oh! I can’t believe I forgot c’est la vie (that’s life). I grew up hearing my mother tell me that.

And, choose joy. Ok, enough from me!

  20. Dawn Says:

I would pick my word for 2010: “peace”

  21. Kristen Stubbs Says:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I’m happily wearing my in bed necklace I got for Christmas!

I would chose “Enough” I’m sure many of you have read the e-mail where the mother visits the daughter and wishes her enough.

I wish you enough sun to keep your attitude bright.
I wish you enough rain to appreciate the sun more.
I wish you enough happiness to keep your spirit alive.
I wish you enough pain so that the smallest joys in life appear much bigger.
I wish you enough gain to satisfy your wanting.
I wish you enough loss to appreciate all that you possess.
I wish enough “Hello’s” to get you through the final “Goodbye.”

  22. Kayla C Says:

    “full hearts”

    last one i promise.

  23. Becky Says:

I said it yesterday’s post but I’ll say it again today: Patience!

  24. CB Says:

    Hey Jess!

I like the word, “Harmony” or the phrase “Live in Harmony.” Of course, I am biased because there is musical implication… but beyond that, I like the concept of looking at the greater picture and finding your place. Living harmoniously – peaceably and amicably – amidst others and the world. :)

  25. Briana Says:

I love this idea and I love the past peoples comment about “life is beautiful” and “be present” I would wear something like that. Keep up the amazing work, you’re so inspiring!

  26. Daniel B. Says:

    Happy Birthday!

I think a very appropriate message is, “Let Our Love Shine.”
It reflects the mood that LOVE should permeate through every aspect of someone’s being…in their attitude and behavior, as well as everyday activities.

  27. Val Says:

I have a thing for signs and just about anything that has a message to remind me to live an open, honest, fun, creative life. My favorite sign that hangs in my bathroom so I read it first thing in the morning says, “She who laughs…lasts.” So that’s my message!
I love it and it’s such a true statement. No matter what the situation, if you can laugh, it will make it at least a little bit better. I believe we often take things too seriously in life, sometimes losing sight of the bigger picture. This is a great reminder to me to be strong, patient and ENJOY life. :)
Also, thanks so much for your blog. It’s my fave…you inspire me!

  28. Heather Says:

    Happy Birthday!

Well for me, my new job working with Alzheimer’s patients and watching them struggle with memories and the most simple tasks has really touched my heart over the last few months. So i would definitely wear a necklace that said “remember” to remind me not only to keep a tight grip on my memories, but also to remember that we shouldn’t take our memories for granted and that we all aren’t all as lucky to have memories at all.

  29. Erica Says:

    I really like

    “Be Love”

To be the embodiment of love, to give it, to get it, to go after it. To surround yourself with love from from friends, family, pets but also from activities you love (art, design, music, dance). I think if we all focused on what love means to us and be that embodiment, we would all have an awesome 2010!

  30. Joy Says:

    Happy Happy Blogiversary!

    “Find Your Joy”

  31. Diana Says:

    Happy blogiversary!

I’d love the classic “Keep Calm and Carry On”
    and also “Stay True”

  32. merium Says:

I like ‘inspire’ and also ‘focus’ and ‘believe’ Another phrase I like is from ‘Saving Private Ryan’~'earn this’ A reminder that we should earn our lives and not take living for granted…

  33. Margaret Says:

    Jess,
Congratulations & Happy Birthday to MML. My suggestion is: “Challenge Yourself”.

  34. nicole Says:

congrats!!! mine would be “Peace is the answer”

  35. lydia Says:

    congrats! and happy blogiversary

my personal kind of mantra is ‘stop hurrying; listen more’. works on me anyway.

  36. Rebecca Says:

Wow!!! Congrats and Happy Birthday. You are an amazing woman with so much inspiration, so mine would say…”inspire”. However, i also love “power”. I feel women in business have so much power and some more than they think they do!

  37. Megan Says:

Happy Birthday MML!!!! Jess, I am so proud of all your achievements! Congrats to you! You have so many wonderful thoughts to share with the world, and you’re doing a great job sharing them! :)

The message I think is important to always remember is “equality”. It can apply to so many situations, and I think is so important to remember each and every day! :) (along with many of the other messages/words that have been posted) So many great ideas I have no idea how you will choose!

  38. KB Says:

    Happy Birthday!

My intentional message would be “Be Strong” or “Stay Strong”

  39. tmr Says:

    Happy Birthday!

    “breathe,” definitely.

  40. Bonnie Says:

Congratulations on your year anniversary! My sister told me about your jewelry…it’s beautiful. Suggested intentional message: “blue skies”

  41. Teri Says:

    Congrats on your anniversary!

I love what everyone has suggested for the intentional messages.

I used a personal situation, the loss of my younger brother and the grief I have gone through to come up with a message.

    Believe.Dream.Inspire.Love.

Reflecting on my brother’s life and passing, these words have helped me prioritize whats important in life and how to achieve and inspire your dream…thats what he did in such a short amount of time!

  42. Anne @ The City Sage Says:

Yay! Congrats on 1 year–and what a year it’s been!!! Here’s to many more full of wonder and excitement :)

As for my intentional message, I’d have to say ‘persevere’, because sometimes when things get tough, you’ve just gotta put your head down and muddle through to the next stage! Feel like I’ve been doing a lot of ‘perservering’ lately…

  43. Lydia Says:

Justice. It is the one thing I am most passionate about and what I devote my time towards!

  44. CreateGirl/Julieann Says:

Congrats on your Birthday and on your interview!! What a wonderful year you are having and with “Spring” too, I love it!

I would have to say “Create Today” would be my intention. Its all about creating the life you want or even as simple as the day you want….doing what makes you happy and remembering YOU have the power to chose what your life looks like. If that means living a creative life, a happy life, a fulfilled life…create it for yourself! Plus it reminds me of what a true “CreateGirl” is!

  45. Katie Says:

Congrats on your blog anniversary! Here are a couple of my suggestions: ‘achieve balance’ ‘don’t worry, be happy’ ‘om’ ‘live and learn’ ‘me + you’ and ‘be true’

  46. jessica hills Says:

Congrats! I am a little obsessed with the word “love” right now…so that’s what I would go with. :)

  47. erika Says:

My intention for 2010 is “listen”.
Congrats on a year of wonderful posts!

  48. Cathy Says:

Hi Jess! Congrats and happy birthday. We had a project in high school where we designed pendants with a one word intention/reminder. Mine said “Laugh.” It’s a reminder to not to take myself too seriously, have fun, and enjoy life. You could also have one that says “enjoy life.”

PS – I have a few more exfoliations to send you, including one with an entertaining story.

  49. Lise Says:

Jess, this is a brilliant idea. I would love to have my year’s mantra on a necklace. But I’ve also enjoyed reading everyone else’s ideas.
    These would be my suggestions:
    let it go
    believe
    be open
    have faith

Congratulations on a great blog which frequently inspires me!
